Synchronized Skating 4 Lesson Plan
Teaching Tips
Circle: A circle that includes the combination move (element C) from Basic 8.

Team will be able to perform a circle inducing the Basic 8 combination move (Forward crossovers into forward inside Mohawk, step down or cross behind, Step into backward crossover and step to forward inside edge.)

Circle Formation, Control of Rotation, Step Sequence at their level (approximately Basic 8)

Review Synchro 1 wheel.

Explain step sequence.

Line: forward line transitioning to a backward line
Team will be able to maintain a line and incorporate a skill from Basic 3-8: any moving turn from forward to backward.

Synchro 1, Unison
Review Synchro 1 line.

Explain/demonstrate the sequence of steps.

Have skaters walk through sequence of steps individually so they all know what to do and where to go.

Have skaters put it all together.

Wheel: Backward 'S' Wheel.
Team will use backward skating to complete three or more rotations in an "S" formation.
Maintain Shapes & Control of Rotation while incorporating more Skills and Speed. Review wheel skills.

Review circle skills.

Have team do element with pumps.

Have team try element with crossovers.

Review concept of gliding.

Intersection: One line forward intersection with a one foot glide at the point of intersection.
Team will create two straight lines facing each other that will intersect.

Awareness of Other Skaters, Line Formation, Unison
Review line techniques.

Line skaters up in stationary position facing each other.

Have skaters walk through their empty spot until they have a good understanding where they will need to intersect.

Dictate the steps and when to let go and reconnect. Have skaters practice this on their own.

Have skaters practice this gaining speed each time until they are comfortable intersecting at full speed.
