ISU
Figure Skating Judging
The International Skating Union (ISU) regulates international figure skating judging and competitions. Figure skating is an official event in the Winter Olympics. Each national skating organizaion trains and promotes judge to conduct testing and competitions for its members. Each country has a maximum quota of the number of judges that can be qualified at the international and ISU levels. Recommendations of judges are made to the ISU for consideration as ISU judges. Candidates must attend ISU seminars, pass exams, and meet experience requirements. When a candidate is first nominated, there age must be between 24 and 45. The ISU also has a miximum retirement age of 70. Judges of each national skating association are available to assist clubs and coaches in assessing the progress of individual skaters and in interpreting and meeting the many ISU and USFS technical rules.
