Preparing to Compete
San Diego Figure Skating Communications
for USFS Events
Skating should be a fun experience.
It requires many hours of practice to develop the skills required to pass the tests to become eligible to compete. Compared to sports like Track and Field, figure skating is much more expensive because of the cost of practice time, lessons, costumes, and equipment.
Even the most skilled figure skater in the Winter Olympics started as a beginner and most parents previously were not figure skaters so they were just like other parents of beginning skaters.
Parents and skaters will find the experience more enjoyable and positive if they are familiar with the rules and heed the advice outlined in the following articles designed to assist in preparing to enter competitions and take tests.
The mission of U.S. Figure Skating is to provide programs to encourage
participation and achievement in the sport of figure skating.
